Many shoe customizers assume that the user understands what the proper terms for the parts of a shoe are and are then given a selection due to their naming. Yet this is ineffective strategy since most user's elect options at random with no clear guidance until they have the desired effect.
We wanted to fix this by placing icons next to the part of the shoe the user was going to edit. To save the user time and direct them to the certain part, the icons were essential. With the icons placed on the part of the shoe that was going to be edited, it was directly shown to the user what the end outcome would be if they performed a certain action.
